All events include:

ASTRIUM DISPLAYS AND MODELS
Talk to real space scientists and engineers, find out all you ever wanted to know about space. Watch footage of real launches, see scale models of satellites and find out about careers.

BRIDGET THE EXOMARS ROVER
We will once again host this full-size prototype robotic mars rover. Discover how she's designed and made, and learn about her ingenious wheel system.

BEAM INTO SPACE WITH ARQIVA
Very popular activity!  Arqiva (who own the satellite dishes outside INTECH) will video pupils and beam their images/voices to a satellie (via an OB van outside) and back. Comparing a direct link to screen with the satellite link demonstrates the delay and is bizarrely hilarious to watch.

UNIVERSITY DISPLAYS

OTHER DISPLAYS
We are inviting everyone we know to come along, so who knows what else will be on offer!

ASTRIUM PLANETARIUM SHOW – TO INFINITY AND BACK
Using INTECH’s real-time planetarium software to give a live flight through the solar system and beyond, adapted for your Key Stage. If you haven’t seen our world-class 17m dome yet, don’t miss this chance! This special show is delivered by real space engineers and followed by a Q&A session.

"Starting close to home, we look at some of the satellites that we depend on during our daily lives before visiting some spectacular planets in our own solar system and to travelling out of our galaxy to view the immensity of our universe! Along the way you will gain a sense of the sheer scale of space and an understanding of the orbital motion of some celestial bodies".

FREEBIES
Posters, leaflets, resources, information and freebies from Astrium and our other partners for teachers and students.

KS2 extras:

RUBBER STAMP TRAIL
Children’s use of the exhibition is structured by their having cards to collect stamps as they go to the different areas.

MARS EGG LANDER
Your mission is to design and build a spacecraft that will land an egg safely on Mars. Designs are tested by dropping them from the INTECH terrace! Workshop by Astrium space engineers.

ASTRIUM PUZZLE BOOK
Roderick Gladwish, Astrium engineer and cartoonist, has created a fantastic puzzle book, "Satellites in Action", which tells a story of a dramatic rescue at sea and how satellite technology is involved at every stage. The perfect post-visit resource, available for download. We hope again to be able to provide printed copies, but to download an electronic version click here.

PRE-VISIT ACTIVITY (tbc)

A pack will be provided for a pre-visit activity where students will design a satellite/spacecraft. They must decide where it is bound, what it will achieve, and what components it will need. The pack, created by Roderick Gladwish, contains example spacecraft and solutions for engineering problems.

Students should work alone or in pairs to ensure the prizes can be shared!

Bring your designs to pin onto the wall and discuss with space engineers. The best designs will be displayed on Saturday and Sunday during the public events. Astrium will select a single winning KS2 design, with prizes for the students including (a) family ticket(s) to INTECH.

KS3 extras:

RUBBER STAMP TRAIL
Pupil’s use of the exhibition is structured by their having cards to collect stamps as they go to the different areas. There will be a prize draw of completed cards with prizes including a family ticket to INTECH.

PLANISPHERE WORKSHOP
A quick workshop with INTECH educators. Students build a planisphere to take home, learning how to use it to predict the positions of stars in the sky and why our view of space changes.

LECTURE
We are proud to be hosting the National Schools Observatory astronomer Andy Newsam as part of  his national tour of the UK. Andy is very experienced at talking to school groups and will give a short lecture to KS3 groups on an astronomy theme.
