Planetarium SHOW LIST

We are showing four film shows in our current regular schedule:

Astronaut
(film show, 22 min)

The exploration of space is the greatest endeavour that humankind has ever undertaken. What does it take to be part of this incredible journey? What does it take to become an astronaut?

Experience a rocket launch from inside the body of an astronaut. Explore the amazing worlds of inner and outer space, from floating around the International Space Station to manoeuvring through microscopic regions of the human body. Narrated by Ewan McGregor.

A great fun family show.

Black Holes: The Other Side of Infinity
(film show, 25 min)

Cross the cosmic threshold into the bizarre realm of a black hole. Stunning graphics take you to the beginning of the Universe and let you watch colliding galaxies before showing you what it might be like to actually fall into a black hole. Narrated by Liam Neeson.

This show has slightly more complicated science than our others and amazing graphics!

Cosmic Journey III
(film show, 22 min)

Go on a tour of the solar system, discovering icy worlds, speeding comets and eerie moons. Explore the places where alien life might be lurking close to Earth, and find out why there really is no place like home.

A lovely gentle show.

We are Astronomers: many eyes make light work
(film show, 24min)

Do you know what an astronomer does? Today's astronomer is not the lone observer of past centuries. Revealing the global collaboration, technology and dedication required to answer the unresolved questions of the universe.

Narrated by David Tennant.

A stylish show, great for teens.

We are Astronomers is the result of a collaboration between seven UK planetariums (including INTECH) with funding from the Science and Technology Facilities Council and input from UK astronomers.

See clips and info on the show's website and twitter feed.

Please be aware that "Astronaut" and "We are Astronomers" both contain scenes with flashing lights which may not be appropriate for photosensitive epileptics.

We also have our popular live (presenter-led) shows.

Scheduling of live shows is dependent upon presenter availability and we regret that the following shows will usually only be available for the public during Hampshire school holidays. See the events calendar for scheduled dates.

Flight Through the Universe
(live show, 30min + Q&A)

A chance to take an amazing flight around the solar system and out to the far reaches of the Universe. Our planetarium manager Jenny will be at the computer controlling everything you see in real-time and describing the incredible sights.

The best way ever to get an idea of just how big space is!

A truly inspirational show.

Neighbourhood Earth
(live show, 40min + Q&A)

Join our presenter to explore the amazing sights visible from Earth. Find out what you can see in the sky tonight, then go on a journey away from home to the far reaches of the Universe. Note this show has a loud bang!

Interactive show with a chance to ask questions at the end.

 An excellent introduction to astronomy.

Alien Worlds
(live show, 30min + Q&A)

Is there life out there? In recent years, scientists have made strides towards answering this question. Find out why we need to start by looking at the Earth itself, and what the chances are of there being alien life in our solar system or beyond.

Originally conceived as a KS3 show, Alien Worlds is also available to family audiences with something to interest all ages.

For those who like to think about the big questions!

To Infinity and Back: a Space and Satellite show
(live show, 30min + Q&A)

Real space engineers from EADS Astrium (Portsmouth) take you on a flying tour of the universe. Find out how satellites stay up, visit some spectacular planets in our own solar system and travel to the edge of the known universe! Along the way you will gain a sense of the sheer scale of space.

Only available ocassionally, as a special event. See this show on Fri 30th October during half-term (check events calendar for details).

Watch out for other special planetarium shows - for instance there are short presenter-led shows about the month's sky as part of each Space Lecture event. Find details of special shows on our long-term events calendar as well as on the planetarium showtimes calendar.
