Planning a Visit
The centre can accommodate pre-booked school parties of up to 250 pupils plus accompanying adults.

To get the most from your visit, it is recommended:

All teachers and other adults involved in the visit attend a Teacher Preview Evening.

Pre-visit preparation of pupils and guidance for the accompanying non-teaching staff and adult helpers.

The lead teacher looks at our health and safety guidelines in preparation for completing your risk assesment.
Prices for On-Site School Visits

Admission to the exhibition is £3.33 per pupil (£4.00 including VAT), accompanying adults are free. (Southampton schools have free entry to Intech due to a grant from the University of Southampton). From 1st September 2012 admission will be £3.33 per pupil (£4.00 including VAT).

Admission to the Astrium Planetarium is £1.80 per person (£2.10 including VAT), workshops and science shows are individually priced.

There is minimum charge of £50 (plus VAT) per group per activity.

INTECH Science Centre can organise subsidised transport to and from the centre which complies with the regulations regarding seatbelts etc. All the drivers have had CRB checks. Costs depend on the distance from the centre.

Payment is usually by invoice to the visiting party, which will be sent after your visit, however, if it is more convenient for you to bring payment on the day, cash or cheques only, please do so.

Should you require anything to be charged to the school, for instance badge making kits or items from the shop, we can add the costs to your invoice.

Facilities

There is an allocated area for schools' picnics and personal belongings. Please bring your own packed lunches and drinks.

The Science Centre has a water fountain which can be used should students bring insufficient drinks with them.

An outdoor area is available in fine weather.

There is a coach drop off point at the schools' entrance where a member of staff will meet you.

A shop where the children can spend their pocket money (and practice their maths!); prices start at 50p. This also sells a range of educational books. Purchases will be placed in bags for each group as they visit the shop and given to the group leader at the end of the visit.
- Planetarium shows, curriculum linked workshops and science shows can be included in your visit.

A programme of specialist lectures runs throughout the year.

Resource materials, including trails and pre and post visit activities, are available to download or supplied on request.

Floor plans are available to locate exhibits.

Special events are held regularly. They includeg World Space Week, in early October each year, National Science and Engineering Week in March and National Pathology Week in November.

Please let us know, in advance, if your group includes anyone with special needs as we are happy to discuss particular requirements to make your visit as rewarding as possible.
INTECH Science Centre advise a generous adult/pupil ratio of 1:6, to enable the pupils to focus on the full opportunities they can gain from the exhibits.
Group leaders are responsible for the behaviour and supervision of the party during the visit, when 'normal' classroom management techniques ensure that your pupils obtain the maximum benefit.

Cancellation
You will be invoiced after your visit for the numbers present on the day, but in the case of substantial changes to the number booked (>20 students), you will be invoiced for the full amount.
A sliding charge will be imposed for all cancellations or substantial changes to bookings:
- Less than 2 weeks from date of visit: 100% of original booking value.
- Less than 1 month and greater than 2 weeks from date of visit: 75% of original booking value.
- Less than 2 months and greater that 1 month from date of visit: 50% of original booking value.
- Over 2 months from date of visit: £50 (refundable if visit is rebooked at the time of cancellation to take place within 6 months of the original visit).
- If cancellation or substantial changes have to be made because of situations outside your control, for example bad weather or illness, then, provided the booking is resceduled for a date within 6 months, the cancellation charge will be waved.
